Scripture
"But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him."

— Luke 15:20b

From the book "Still Walking"
"Your Father isn’t just waiting for you; He’s watching for you. And the moment He sees you, He runs."

Can you see it? A long, dusty road shimmering in the afternoon sun. A lone figure, just a speck on the horizon, walking slowly, hesitantly. But someone has been watching that road. Someone’s eyes, sharpened by a relentless hope, have been scanning that horizon every single day. And those eyes don’t see a speck. They see a son. They see you.

My friend, wherever you are today, this is the posture of your Heavenly Father. He is not sitting on a throne with His arms crossed, tapping His foot, waiting for you to get your act together. He is on the edge of His seat, leaning forward, looking for you. The scripture promises that “while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him.”

That compassion changes everything. It’s a tidal wave of grace that washes away the “what ifs” and the “if onlys.” It doesn’t see your detour; it only sees your return. And this powerful compassion moves Him to do something spectacular. He doesn’t just wait. He doesn’t send a servant. The Bible says, “he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.”

Picture it! The God of the universe, gathering up His robes, casting dignity aside in a full-out, joyful, shameless sprint to you. He’s not running to lecture you. He’s running to love you. He’s not coming to demand an explanation. He’s coming to throw a party in your honor. You may feel that you are a long way off, that the journey home is too daunting. But God’s grace is already closing the distance. He’s not focused on how far you went; His heart is bursting with joy that you are coming home.

That is your destiny! You weren’t made for the far country; you were made for the Father’s house. No mistake you’ve made can disqualify you from the celebration He has planned. His favor is chasing you down. His goodness and mercy are right on your heels. Maybe you’ve felt a stirring in your heart, a gentle pull homeward. That is your invitation. Your seat at the table has been saved, the lights are on, and the Father is on the porch, watching, waiting, ready to run.

Don’t you dare believe you need to clean yourself up before you can come home. Just turn your heart toward Him. You’ll find His arms are already open wide, ready to wrap you in a love that stills all your fears and whispers, “Welcome home. You belong here.”

Reflect

What part of the Father’s welcome—the watching, the running, the embrace, or the celebration—gives you the most hope today?

Today's prayer
Father God, thank You for Your relentless, passionate love that never gives up on me. I am in awe that you are not waiting on a distant throne, but running to meet me with joy. I choose to fall into Your embrace today, receiving the full welcome and celebration You have prepared for me. Thank you for declaring 'Welcome Home!' over my life. Amen.
