Scripture
"The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit."

— Psalm 34:18

From the book "Still Walking"
"This book is not a step-by-step formula to fix your faith. You don’t need a formula. You need hope."

My friend, have you ever felt that sting? That deep, aching hurt that comes not from the outside world, but from within the very walls you sought for solace? It’s a paradox, isn’t it? The place meant to be a haven, a sanctuary of grace and love, can sometimes become a source of profound pain. We’ve all seen it, or perhaps, sadly, experienced it firsthand—the sharp words, the unexpected judgment, the feeling of being overlooked or misunderstood in the very community where you longed to belong.

It can leave you reeling, can’t it? Like a ship adrift, your spirit feels bruised, your heart heavy with disappointment. When the very hands that should offer comfort inflict wounds, it’s natural to want to pull back, to guard your heart, believing it's safer to navigate life’s storms alone. You might find yourself questioning everything, wondering if your faith, once so vibrant, can ever truly recover.

But imagine this: in those moments of deepest hurt, when your spirit feels most crushed, the Lord isn't distant. He's not standing on the sidelines, observing your pain. No, the Scripture paints a different, more beautiful picture. “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” Can you see Him, friend? He’s leaning in, drawing close to your aching heart, whispering words of comfort and healing. He doesn’t condemn your pain; He embraces it.

His love isn't limited by our human imperfections or the failings of others. His grace, oh, His grace is so much bigger than any wound. It’s a balm that soothes, a gentle hand that mends. He sees your hurt, He feels your disappointment, and He’s right there, ready to lift you up, to restore your soul.

Healing from these deep-seated hurts isn't about rushing your way to recovery or finding a magic formula. It’s a process, a tender journey of allowing God’s unwavering love to penetrate those tender places. It’s about gently letting go of the cynicism, the disillusionment, and trusting that His embrace is wider than any church door, and His compassion runs deeper than any wound you’ve experienced.

Perhaps it means finding a new community, one that reflects His love more brightly. Or maybe it’s a season of quiet reflection, allowing God Himself to be your ultimate comforter and guide. Whatever your path, know this: your Heavenly Father is not defined by the mistakes of people, but by His perfect, unfailing love for *you*. He truly wants to save your crushed spirit, to bring renewal and joy where there has been sorrow. Step into His nearness today, and let His boundless love be the source of your complete healing and hope.

Reflect

In what ways has God shown up for you in your moments of deepest hurt, proving His nearness to your broken heart?

Today's prayer
Heavenly Father, we come to You with our hearts open, sometimes bruised, sometimes broken. We thank You that You are near to the brokenhearted, and that You save those crushed in spirit. Heal the wounds within us that have come from unexpected places. Help us to feel Your comforting presence and to trust in Your unfailing love. Guide us to the places and the people where Your grace shines brightest, and restore in us a resilient hope. Amen.
