Scripture
"The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”"

— Romans 8:15

From the book "Still Walking"
"You weren't hired for the servant's quarters; you were adopted into the family room. God isn't looking for an employee; He's waiting with open arms for His child."

Can you feel it? The weight of that heavy door between you and God. For so long, maybe you’ve stood on the outside, knocking timidly, hoping you’ve done enough, been good enough, to be allowed inside. You hold your breath, wondering if you’ll be welcomed or judged. My friend, I have the most glorious news for you. God is not standing on the other side of that door with a clipboard and a list of your faults. He’s flinging it wide open with a smile that could light up the heavens, ready to wrap you in an embrace you were created for.

This is not the welcome of a master to a servant. It’s the welcome of a Father to a long-lost child. The scripture sings this beautiful truth over you today: “The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.” Do you see? The old life of fear, of trying to earn your place, of walking on eggshells around God—that’s over. It’s cancelled. Demolished. You have not been given a spirit of slavery that makes you tremble; you’ve been given the Spirit of adoption.

And what does that Spirit do? It gives you a new language for your heart. By Him, we don’t whisper a formal, distant title. No, by Him we cry out, “Abba, Father.” In its simplest, most tender form, that’s like looking up and saying, “Daddy.” It is the ultimate insider term, the language of the dearly loved, the completely secure. It’s the cry of a child who knows they belong, who knows they have a home, who knows their Father’s lap is a place of safety, not scrutiny. You are not on probation. You are not an intern in the kingdom of God. You are a full-fledged, legal heir, adopted into the greatest family in the universe.

Your Father is not surprised by your stumbles. They don’t disqualify you from His love; they qualify you for His grace. He saw every mistake you would ever make before He chose you, before he called you His own. And He still declared, “That one’s mine!” His welcome is not based on your performance; it is sealed by His promise. So today, walk right through that open door. Let a new confidence rise in your spirit. You are home. You are wanted. You are a child of the King, and your Father is so, so happy to see you.

Reflect

What wonderful, audacious dream would you dare to chase if you knew you could absolutely not fail in your Father's eyes?

Today's prayer
Abba, Father, I step out of the shadows of performance and into the light of Your unconditional welcome. Thank You for silencing the voice of fear and replacing it with the song of adoption. Let the truth that I am Your beloved child rewrite every worried thought and calm every anxious feeling. I receive Your embrace not as a guest, but as a child coming home forever. Amen.
