Scripture
"And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him."

— Luke 15:20

From the book "Still Walking"
"The road home is always open, leading to the embrace of the Father."

Friend, have you ever felt that ache in your soul, that deep longing for belonging, for a place where you are truly, unconditionally loved? Maybe life has taken some unexpected turns. Perhaps you've journeyed down paths you never intended, and now you stand at a crossroads, filled with doubts and questions. You might even be wondering if you’ve gone too far, if your mistakes are too big, if the road back to grace is simply too long.

Oh, but let me tell you, that whisper of doubt is not the voice of your Heavenly Father! Just as the father in the parable scanned the horizon, tirelessly looking for his son, your Father is looking for you right now, with eyes full of hope and a heart overflowing with compassion. He’s not counting your missteps; He’s anticipating your return.

The scripture paints such a beautiful picture, doesn't it? “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.” Imagine that! Not a slow, measured walk, not a hesitant hello, but a full-force run, a lavish embrace, a warm kiss that speaks volumes of love and acceptance. This isn't just an ancient story, dear friend, it's a living truth for you today.

Maybe you feel like that son, a little tattered, a little dusty from the journey, perhaps even a bit embarrassed by where you’ve been. But in God's eyes, you are always His beloved child. He’s not focused on the distance you’ve traveled away from Him; He’s focused on the joy of your homecoming. He’s not waiting to scold you; He’s waiting to celebrate you!

That embrace, that powerful, unconditional hug — it's not something you have to earn. It’s freely given, a gift from a Father whose love knows no bounds. It’s in that embrace that all your fears are calmed, all your regrets are washed away, and all your wounds begin to heal. It’s in that embrace that you remember who you truly are: cherished, valuable, and deeply loved.

So, if you’ve been carrying a heavy heart, wondering if there’s a way back, let this truth sink deep into your spirit today: The road home is always open. Your Father is always watching. And His arms are always, always open wide, ready to run to you, to embrace you, and to welcome you back into the warmth of His unending love. You are never too far gone for His grace, never too lost for His embrace.

Take a deep breath and let the truth of His unwavering love wash over you. Know that His compassion is new every morning and His mercy endures forever. Step onto that path of grace, knowing that ahead of you awaits the most beautiful welcome you could ever imagine. His embrace is waiting, full of restoration, peace, and boundless joy.

Reflect

What might be holding you back from fully stepping into the Father's open embrace, and what is one small step you can take today to move closer to that unconditional love?

Today's prayer
Loving Father, we come to You with open hearts, so grateful for Your unending love and astonishing grace. Thank You for always watching, always waiting, and always running to meet us, no matter where we’ve been. Forgive us for ever doubting Your boundless compassion. Help us to shed our shame and step boldly onto the path of Your mercy, confident in the warmth of Your embrace. We receive Your love today, knowing we are forever Yours. Amen.
