God in the Unexpected

God of the Hidden Places – finding God in unexpected places. I'm not always looking to get something out of it. I just need to remember that God is still in…

Scripture
"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose."

— Romans 8:28

From the book "Still Walking"
"God of the Hidden Places – finding God in unexpected places. I'm not always looking to get something out of it. I just need to remember that God is still in it."

My friend, have you ever found yourself in a situation where everything felt... ordinary? Maybe it was a Tuesday afternoon, and you were stuck in traffic, or perhaps you were just going through the motions of your daily routine. We often expect to find God in the grand, the glorious, the designated sacred spaces. We look for Him in the quiet of a church pew, in the sacred words of scripture, or in the serene moments of prayer. And yes, He is absolutely there, waiting for us, longing to connect.

But let me tell you a secret: God is not confined to those moments alone. He's not just in the mountaintop experiences; He's also powerfully present in the valleys, in the mundane, and yes, even in the utterly unexpected corners of your life where you might least expect an encounter with the divine. It’s like finding a hidden gem in an ordinary field—a burst of unexpected beauty in an everyday landscape.

I believe God often reveals Himself in what I call the "hidden places." These aren't always the dramatic revelations we anticipate, but rather the quiet whispers of grace in the midst of life. It could be the gentle touch of kindness from a stranger, the breathtaking artistry in a sunrise, the intricate design of a tiny flower, or even the challenging conversation that stretches you in ways you didn't think possible. It's in those moments, when you're not even looking for Him, but simply living, that you suddenly become aware of His loving presence, subtly woven into the very fabric of your day.

Think about it: Romans 8:28 tells us, "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose." This isn't a vague promise, friend. It's a divine guarantee! It doesn't say all things will *feel* good—we all know life has its bumps and bruises. But it promises that *all things work together for good*. That means even in the messy, the complicated, the confusing parts of your journey, God is orchestrating, coordinating, and working behind the scenes. He's taking every single piece, every experience, every setback, and every victory, and weaving them into a beautiful tapestry for your ultimate good.

So, my dear friend, don't limit God to your expectations. Open your spiritual eyes a little wider today. Look beyond the predictable. Look for the God of the hidden places, the One who is not only present in the extraordinary but makes the ordinary extraordinary simply by being there. He's working for you, in you, and through you, right now, to bring about a good and glorious future. Get ready to see Him in brand new ways!

May you be continually blessed with eyes to see God's hand at work in every corner of your life, transforming the common into the miraculous and filling your days with His unexpected grace.

Reflect

In what "hidden place" or unexpected moment did you sense God's presence most strongly recently?

Today's prayer
Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are not confined to our expectations or limited by our perceptions. Open our eyes, Lord, to see You in the unexpected beauty of everyday moments, in the quiet acts of kindness, and even in the challenges that help us grow. Help us to truly believe that all things, even the hidden and unseen, are working together for our good. We receive Your presence and Your favor today, knowing You are always at work on our behalf. Amen.
