Scripture
"My soul clings to the dust; give me life according to your word."

— Psalm 119:25 (NIV)

From the book "Still Walking"
"Your Bible reads more like a textbook than a love letter. ... 'My soul clings to the dust; give me life according to Your word' (Psalm 119:25)."

Have you ever found yourself in a season where life feels… just a little bit flat? Like you’re wandering through a desert, and the vibrant colors have faded to shades of beige? Perhaps you remember days when God’s Word felt like a roaring waterfall, splashing fresh hope and revealing crystal-clear directions for your path. Each verse was a refreshing drink to your thirsty soul. But lately, perhaps it feels more like a dusty, forgotten well.

Friend, if that describes you, know that you are not alone in this landscape. We’ve all been there, standing at the well, peering into the depths, and finding it still. It's easy to think, "What's wrong with me? Why isn't God speaking to me the way He used to?" And sometimes, we might even feel a whisper of guilt, as if our faith isn't strong enough, or our devotion has somehow waned.

But here’s the beautiful truth: God understands. He knew we would have these seasons. That's why we have powerful voices in scripture, like the Psalmist, who openly cried out, "My soul clings to the dust; give me life according to your word." This isn't a complaint; it's an honest, heartfelt prayer from a soul yearning for replenishment. It's an invitation to be transparent with our Creator.

Instead of blaming yourself, or walking away when the bread of life feels a little stale, embrace this moment. See it not as a sign of spiritual failure, but as an opportunity for deeper trust. It’s in these very moments of dryness that God is inviting you to rely not on your feelings, but on His faithfulness. He’s asking you to simply show up, even if it’s just to sit quietly at His feet, holding His Word in your hands.

Think of it like this: a loving parent doesn't stop feeding their child just because the child isn't clamoring for food at every meal. No, they continue to provide nourishment, knowing that consistent, gentle sustenance is what the child needs to grow. In the same way, God wants to nourish your spirit, even when you don't feel an immediate gush of inspiration. He knows that a steady diet of His truth, even in quiet whispers, is building something profound within you.

Keep leaning in, keep opening that precious Book. Keep showing up to the table. Ask the Giver of all life to breathe fresh breath into those ancient words, to transform them from letters on a page into living water for your soul. Don't lose heart, because He is faithful. He will restore, refresh, and revive your spirit, making His Word come alive for you once again, not just as a book, but as a vibrant, personal love letter, filled with His unchanging promises and overflowing grace. Your best days are still ahead, and God is working all things for your good, even in the quiet moments of waiting and seeking.

Remember, your faith isn't shaken when you acknowledge a dry spell; it’s strengthened when you continue to seek the One who is the living water. He is ready to pour out His life-giving spirit into your innermost being. Get ready to experience a fresh outpouring of His presence and a renewed sense of purpose. He has a plan for you that is bigger and brighter than you can imagine! Stay encouraged, for breakthrough is on its way!

Reflect

In what area of your life, or in your walk with God, do you currently feel a sense of spiritual dryness, and how can you invite God to pour His life and refreshment into that space?

Today's prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, we come before You with honest hearts, acknowledging that sometimes our souls feel parched and weary. We ask You to breathe fresh life into us, just as Your Word promises. Revive our spirits, Lord, and make Your truth leap off the pages and into our hearts. Help us to trust in Your faithfulness, even when we don't feel immediate inspiration. Thank You for always being our living water, ready to refresh and renew us. We believe that You are working new things in us today. Amen.
