Tears Wiped Away

The promise of an eternity free from sorrow is the bedrock of our enduring hope. Have you ever noticed how a single tear carries the weight of a heavy heart…

Scripture
"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain."

— Revelation 21:4

From the book "Still Walking"
"The promise of an eternity free from sorrow is the bedrock of our enduring hope."

Have you ever noticed how a single tear carries the weight of a heavy heart? Maybe you’re carrying one today. You’ve walked through the valley of the "not enoughs" and the "whys." You’ve stood at the edge of a fresh grave, or sat in the quiet of a doctor’s office, or felt the sting of a goodbye you never invited. In this life, sorrow is a traveler that finds us all. We try to blink it back, we try to stay strong, but the dampness on our cheeks tells the truth: this world is broken, and our hearts are often weary.

But friend, I want you to lean in close and hear a promise that changes everything. God doesn't just see your struggle from a distance; He is intimately acquainted with every drop of sorrow you’ve shed. The Bible tells us in Revelation 21:4 that a day is coming when He will wipe every tear from your eyes. Can you picture it? The Creator of the galaxies, the One who holds the oceans in the hollow of His hand, reaches down with the tenderness of a father to brush away the salt and the sadness from your face. He doesn’t just offer a handkerchief; He offers a brand-new reality.

Think about what that heaven-bound landscape looks like. There will be no more death. No more mourning. No more crying. No more pain. Imagine a world where the word "cancer" or "divorce" or "loneliness" doesn't even exist in our vocabulary. They’ve been extinguished by the light of His glory. This isn't just a nice thought to get us through a bad Tuesday; it is the bedrock of our enduring hope. It’s a divine decree from a God who cannot lie. He is telling you that the story you are living right now—the one with the struggles and the setbacks—is not the final chapter.

Right now, your pain might feel like a permanent resident, but I’ve come to remind you that it’s only a visitor. You weren't made for the dark; you were made for the dawn. Because of what Jesus did on that cross, the sting of death has been pulled. The grave has been defeated. And that means your current trials, as heavy as they feel today, are only "momentary and light" compared to the weight of glory that’s coming your way.

Don't lose heart, and don't give up. Your tears are not invisible to Him. He is collecting them, counting them, and preparing a place for you where joy is the air you breathe. When you look at your circumstances today, look at them through the lens of eternity. Fix your gaze beyond the immediate horizon of your hurt. A day is coming when the sun will never set, your heart will never ache, and the One who loves you most will dry every tear forever. That is your inheritance. That is your future. And the best part? It’s closer than you think.

Reflect

How does the promise of an end to all tears and pain transform your perspective on your current struggles and aspirations?

Today's prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the profound and unwavering hope You offer. Strengthen us to endure present trials, knowing that a day is coming when all tears will be wiped away. May this eternal promise fill our hearts with peace and unwavering assurance.
