Scripture
"Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning."

— Psalm 30:5b

From the book "Still Walking"
"Don't just endure the night, my friend. Expect the morning. God is not hoping for a sunrise in your life; He is commanding it."

Have you been there? In the blue-gray light of a room just before dawn, where the only sound is the humming of the refrigerator and the racing of your own heart. The clock seems frozen, the stillness of the house feels heavy, and you wonder, truly wonder, if the sun forgot its appointment with the horizon.

My friend, if you are in that long, lonely hallway of the night, I want you to know you are not forgotten. You are not being punished. In fact, you are in a sacred, preparatory place. God is closer than your very breath. He is the keeper of the stars, the one who calls them each by name, and He is sitting with you in the darkness, holding your hand, whispering about the magnificent sunrise He is painting just for you. Every tear you’ve cried, He has seen. He has collected them, treasured them. Not one moment of your sorrow is wasted in His economy of grace.

This is the unshakable truth the psalmist clung to, a promise that has held saints for centuries: "Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning." Read that again. The weeping is real, yes. God doesn’t dismiss it. He makes room for it. He understands. But oh, that little word, "but." That is the hinge on which your whole world can swing from darkness to light! The sentence doesn’t end with weeping. It can’t! Because with our God, the night is never the final word. The promise isn't that morning *might* come; it is that rejoicing *comes*. It is a divine declaration. A guaranteed, grace-sealed certainty.

The darkness is not a sign of God’s absence; it’s proof of His intimate presence. A seed must be buried in the dark soil before it can burst forth in life. A diamond is formed under pressure, hidden away in the earth. Believe today that God is doing a deep, glorious, and powerful work in you. He is not just helping you get *through* this season; He is using this season to prepare you for a morning more wonderful than you can ask or imagine. He is expanding your capacity for joy. He is setting the stage for a comeback that will astound you.

So lift your head, dear one. Let expectation be the pillow you rest on tonight. The weeping is a temporary guest. But joy? Joy is on its way to move in permanently. Joy is setting the breakfast table for you. Your morning is not just possible; it is inevitable. Stand by the window of your heart and look to the east. The God of brilliant sunrises is about to put on a show just for you.

Reflect

As you look toward the horizon of your life, what is one beautiful thing you can begin to thank God for about the "morning" He has promised is coming?

Today's prayer
Father, thank You for sitting with me in the quiet of the long nights. Even when I can’t see the path, I trust Your loving hand is leading me. Fill my heart with the joyful anticipation of the morning You are preparing, for Your promises are my unfailing hope. I am ready for the dawn You have guaranteed. Amen.
