Your True Name: A Divine Calling

The world will try to label you by your failures. God calls you by your true name: redeemed, chosen, His. Friend, have you ever felt the weight of labels…

Scripture
"But now, this is what the Lord says— he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine."

— Isaiah 43:1

From the book "Still Walking"
"The world will try to label you by your failures. God calls you by your true name: redeemed, chosen, His."

Friend, have you ever felt the weight of labels pressed upon you? Maybe it's the `not good enough` whispered from a past mistake, or the `failure` that echoes after a setback. We all have those moments, don't we? It’s so easy to let the world’s opinions or our own missteps paint a picture of who we are, a picture that often falls far short of our true potential and God’s amazing plan for our lives. You might be carrying a label that isn't even yours, a heavy burden that keeps you from soaring.

But here’s the beautiful truth, the truth that can set your spirit free: long before anyone ever tried to put a label on you, God already gave you one. He gave you a true name, a divine calling etched into the very fabric of your being. Imagine that for a moment – before you took your first breath, before you made your first choice, good or bad, you were known, cherished, and uniquely designed by the Creator of the universe.

The Scripture in Isaiah 43:1 paints such a clear, powerful picture: `“But now, this is what the Lord says— he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.”` Just let those words sink deep into your soul, friend. ‘I have summoned you by name; you are mine.’ This isn't just an ancient promise; it's a living, breathing declaration over your life right now.

Think of it this way: the world might see your struggles, your imperfections, or your past, but God sees beyond all of that. He sees the masterpiece He created. He sees the person He formed with purpose and destiny. He’s not looking at your faults; He’s looking at your faith. He's not counting your mistakes; He's celebrating your redemption! When He looks at you, He doesn't see a 'failure'; He sees His beloved child, radiant with His grace.

This isn't about ignoring reality; it's about shifting your perspective to a higher reality, God’s reality. When the voices of doubt or condemnation start to arise, gently remind yourself of this divine truth: you are redeemed, you are chosen, and you are entirely His. These are your true names, written by the hand of love. Let their powerful echo overwhelm every other noise.

Today, make a conscious decision to shed every label that doesn't align with God's Word. Walk in the glorious light of His affirmation. You are His, and because you are His, you are endowed with endless potential, incredible favor, and an unshakeable identity. Embrace the truth of who you are in Him, and watch how your life begins to reflect the magnificent purpose He has woven into your very existence! You are truly blessed, deeply loved, and destined for greatness!

Reflect

What labels have you unknowingly allowed to define you, and how can you choose to replace them with God’s truth about who you are?

Today's prayer
Heavenly Father, we come before You with grateful hearts, overflowing with thanks for Your incredible love. Thank You for calling us by our true names, for reminding us that we are Yours, chosen and redeemed. Forgive us for ever allowing the world’s whispers or our own past to define us. Help us to tune out the noise and only hear Your voice, the voice that tells us we are cherished, valuable, and created with divine purpose. We claim Your promises over our lives today, believing that because we are Yours, all things are possible. In Jesus’ name, amen.
