Scripture
"“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”"

— Matthew 11:28

From the book "Still Walking"
"Sometimes grace isn't about gaining something new, but about the profound relief of finally laying down a burden you were never meant to carry."

Have you ever seen a child, arms overflowing with toys, refusing to drop a single one, even as tears stream down their face from the sheer effort? They clutch them tight, believing that if they just hold on a little longer, just try a little harder, they can manage it all. Friend, sometimes, in our walk of faith, we can be a lot like that child. We pile on responsibilities, worries, and burdens, trying to carry them all in our own strength, convinced that it's up to us to manage every single thing.

But the truth is, some burdens were never meant for our shoulders. They're too heavy, too complex, too overwhelming for our human capacity. The good news, the amazing news, is that God never intended for you to carry them alone. He sees your tired eyes, your aching back, and hears the sigh that escapes your lips when you think no one is listening. And in His boundless love, He extends the most beautiful, liberating invitation.

Think about it—Jesus didn't command us to strive harder or to grit our teeth and bear it. No, He said, 'Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.' (Matthew 11:28). This isn't a suggestion; it's a promise! It's a divine assurance that when you feel completely overwhelmed, when you've reached the end of your rope, there's a sacred space waiting for you, a place of peace and profound relief.

Grace, my dear friend, isn't always about gaining something new; sometimes, it's about the blessed relief of *letting go*. It's about unclinching your fists, opening your hands, and surrendering those things that have been weighing you down. Perhaps it's a past mistake you can't forgive yourself for, a relationship you're desperately trying to control, a fear that holds you captive, or a future outcome you're striving to manipulate. Whatever it is, God’s grace is bigger than it. His love is deeper than your worry.

When you truly come to Him, placing those burdens at His feet, you'll discover a rest that refreshes your soul and renews your spirit. It's a supernatural exchange: your heavy load for His lightness, your striving for His peace. You don't have to earn this rest, you just have to receive it. It's already yours for the taking.

Today, know that you are deeply loved, and you are not alone. There's freedom in releasing what was never yours to carry, and there's immense power in trusting God with the details. Let His grace be the profound, liberating relief you've been longing for.

Reflect

What burden, large or small, are you ready to wholeheartedly release into God's loving hands today, trusting Him with the outcome?

Today's prayer
Dear Lord, we come to You today, weary and heavy-laden, just as You invited us to. We’ve been trying to carry so much on our own, holding onto burdens You never intended for us to bear. Forgive us for our striving and our attempts to control. We choose, right now, to surrender these worries, fears, and responsibilities into Your loving, capable hands. Thank You for the profound gift of Your grace—a grace that allows us to find rest and peace in Your presence. May our hearts be lightened, our spirits refreshed, and our trust in You deepened. Amen.
