My friend, imagine for a moment a beautiful sailboat, poised and ready. The sails are perfectly furled, the deck gleams, and the captain stands ready at the helm. But without the wind, that magnificent vessel stays right where it is, gently bobbing in the harbor. It’s lovely to look at, but it’s not fulfilling its purpose. It’s not sailing. In much the same way, God has placed incredible purpose within each of us, but sometimes we wait for the perfect conditions, for the calm seas, before we’re willing to unfurl our sails and truly step into His plan.
You see, when we think of our calling, we often dream of grand stages and perfectly smooth pathways, where everything aligns effortlessly with our strengths and desires. And yes, God loves to bless us in those moments! But the truth is, sometimes His greatest plans for us unfold in unexpected waters, in places that feel a little outside our comfort zone. It’s in those moments, when the journey feels a little challenging, that we discover the incredible, empowering presence of the Holy Spirit.
Think about the early disciples. Jesus didn’t tell them, “Go when you feel ready, when it’s convenient, when every fear has vanished.” No, He gave them a bold vision: "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Notice He starts with their familiar ‘Jerusalem’ – a place they knew. But then He stretches them to ‘Judea and Samaria’ – places that might have felt a bit foreign, even tough. And finally, "to the ends of the earth" – a vision so vast, it would have seemed impossible on their own strength.
But here’s the key, the beautiful, undeniable truth we can hold onto: He didn't send them alone, and He doesn’t send you alone. The promise wasn't “You *will be* witnesses, good luck!” It was “You *will receive power* when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and *then* you will be my witnesses.” That power, my friend, is your divine advantage. It’s the supernatural strength that enables you to do what you couldn’t do on your own. It’s the courage to speak when you feel timid, the wisdom to navigate unfamiliar territory, and the peace to stand firm when the waves get a little choppy.
God is not asking you to be equipped before you go; He is promising to equip you *as you go*. He’s not calling you to be comfortable; He’s calling you to be courageous, knowing that His power will sustain you every step of the way. So, dear friend, don't let discomfort define your destiny. Don't let a little unfamiliarity keep you from the incredible journey God has for you. Unfurl your sails and trust the wind of the Spirit. He will carry you further and accomplish more through you than you could ever imagine, blessing you and making you a blessing to the entire world.
Today, know that you are not just called, you are empowered. Walk confidently in the knowledge that God’s amazing grace and limitless power are working in you, through you, and for you, launching you into your most purpose-filled life.
