Scripture
"My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish?"

— Psalm 22:1 (NIV)

From the book "Still Walking"
"When God seems silent, waiting seasons. ... A silent God is still a near Savior."

Imagine a beautiful, sun-drenched field, filled with the vibrant hum of life. You can hear the birds singing, the gentle rustle of the wind through the tall grass, and the joyful buzz of bees. Then, suddenly, total silence. That vibrant field goes quiet, and an unfamiliar stillness settles over everything. Friend, haven't we all experienced moments like this in our spiritual journey? Moments where the usual sounds of God's presence, the comforting whispers, or the clear directions, seem to fade away, leaving us in a season of profound quiet.

It’s in these quiet seasons that our hearts, just like the Psalmist in ancient times, might echo with a longing cry: 'My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?' (Psalm 22:1). We reach out, we pray, we seek His face, and sometimes it feels like all we receive is an echoing silence. It’s natural to feel a little disoriented, maybe even a bit scared, when we can’t seem to hear His voice. But let me tell you, precious friend, this silence is not a sign of His absence, but often, an invitation to a deeper trust.

Think about it: even in the quietest moments, the sun hasn’t stopped shining, has it? The grass is still growing, and the earth is still turning. In the same way, when God seems silent, He hasn’t stopped being God. He hasn't stopped loving you, planning for you, or working all things for your good. He is always, always present. This quiet season isn't a test of His commitment to you; it's an opportunity for your faith to grow stronger, to move beyond what you can see, hear, or feel, and anchor itself firmly in the unshakeable truth of His character.

Perhaps in these quiet times, God is inviting us to listen in a new way. Not just for the loud pronouncements, but for the gentle nudges, the subtle peace, the quiet assurance that He is right there, beside you, orchestrating every detail of your life. He is cultivating a deeper intimacy, a faith that doesn't rely on immediate answers but on His eternal faithfulness. He's building a foundation in you that even the strongest storms can't shake.

So, when the world around you, or even your inner world, goes quiet, don’t despair. Instead, lean in. Rest in the knowledge that a silent God is still a saving God. He is always near, always working, always loving. This season of quiet is preparing you for something magnificent, strengthening your roots so you can stand tall and flourish. Get ready, because even in the stillness, He is doing a new and glorious thing in you!

Reflect

What new way might God be inviting you to listen for His presence in the quiet moments of your life right now?

Today's prayer
Heavenly Father, when the world grows quiet around us and Your voice seems distant, steady our hearts. Help us to remember that Your presence is constant, even when we can’t sense it. Teach us to trust in Your unchanging character and Your unfailing love. May this season of quiet draw us closer to You, deepening our faith and revealing new layers of Your magnificent grace. In Jesus’ name, amen.
