Can you feel the dust in the air? Can you hear the murmur of the crowd, the tension thick and heavy? A father, his heart breaking for his child, has pushed his way to the front. He’s standing before Jesus, and in one desperate, gasping breath, he gives the most honest prayer ever recorded. It wasn’t a perfect prayer. It wasn’t polished for a Sunday morning. He cried out, "I believe; help my unbelief!"
My friend, have you ever felt that? That push and pull in your own heart? Holding faith and questions in the same hand? On one side, a deep certainty that God is good. On the other, a wondering, a weariness, a cry for help. If you have, I want you to know something: you are in good company. And you are standing in a holy place.
That father’s cry was not a sign of failure. Oh no. It was a sign of incredible courage. He didn’t run from his uncertainty; he ran with it, straight into the arms of Jesus. He didn’t pretend to have it all together. He just showed up, honest and open. And what did Jesus do? Did he scold him? Did he turn away? No, a thousand times no! He leaned in. He honored that raw, real faith. He met the man right where he was and performed a miracle.
Your Heavenly Father isn’t afraid of your questions. He isn’t disappointed when you feel that tension between what you know in your head and what you’re struggling to feel in your heart. He created your heart, after all! He invites you to bring all of it to Him—the confident "I believe!" and the whispered "help me." Your honesty is a beautiful offering. It’s an invitation for Him to show His strength, not a declaration of your weakness.
Today, you don’t have to have all the answers. You just have to know the One who does. Bring him your faith. Bring him your questions. Watch as He takes them both and does something miraculous. He is for you, right here, right now. Your honest heart is the perfect place for a mighty God to show up and show off His incredible love for you.
So let your shoulders relax. Let out that breath you’ve been holding. Your journey is not about having a perfect faith; it’s about having a present God who promises to walk with you through it all. And He is so, so good at keeping His promises.
