Scripture
"Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience."

— Colossians 3:12

From the book "Still Walking"
"When I was in the thick of my own brokenness, compassion from others felt like a tiny flicker of light in an otherwise dark world. It wasn't pity, but a deep understanding that helped me believe there was still hope for me."

Friend, have you ever noticed how some days can feel a little rough, a little abrasive? It's like the world is throwing sharp edges your way, and sometimes, if we're truly honest, a bit of that sharpness starts to embed itself in our own hearts. We see so much struggle, so much judgment, and it can be easy to let those things dim our inner light.

But here's the beautiful truth, a truth that shines like a morning sunbeam: You are chosen. You are holy. You are dearly loved. These aren't just pretty words; they're the solid bedrock of your identity. God picked you out, He set you apart, and He cherishes you with an unending, unconditional love. You have a divine inheritance, a royal lineage that no challenge can ever diminish.

Today's scripture from Colossians 3:12 invites us to step into this glorious reality: “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Imagine putting on the most comfortable, most luxurious garment you own – a garment woven with threads of God's grace. That's what it means to 'clothe yourself with compassion.' It's not something we merely *feel*; it's something we *wear*, something we actively choose to display to the world.

Think about it this way: when you choose compassion, you're not just being nice; you're reflecting the very heart of Jesus. He always looked past the surface, past the struggles, past the outward appearances, straight to the hurting soul within. He saw potential, He saw worth, and He loved with a boundless, welcoming heart. We get to mirror that same incredible love!

Now, I know what you might be thinking: "But what if I'm hurting? What if I feel empty?" That, dear friend, is precisely when God's love for you becomes your superpower. When you lean into His grace, when you remember how deeply He loves *you*, it empowers you to extend that same grace, that same understanding, to others. His strength becomes your strength, His compassion becomes your compassion.

So, let's make a decision today. Let's decide to actively don that garment of compassion. Let's ask God to soften our gaze, to open our ears to the quiet cries of others, and to guide our hands and feet to be messengers of His love. When we live from this place of overflowing love, we become conduits of comfort and healing, bringing a little more heaven to earth. You are capable of amazing things when you allow God’s compassion to flow through you.

Reflect

In what area of your life or with what person could you intentionally "clothe yourself" with more compassion and kindness this week?

Today's prayer
Heavenly Father, we come before You with grateful hearts, so thankful that You have chosen us, made us holy, and loved us so dearly. Today, we ask that you would clothe us with Your divine compassion. Help us to see others through Your eyes of grace and understanding, just as You see us. Soften our spirits, ignite our kindness, and empower us to be living examples of Your gentle love. May our lives radiate Your patience and humility to everyone we encounter. Amen.
