Finding Your Still Point: Where God Speaks

Sometimes God's loudest voice is found in quiet surrender. Have you ever felt like you're caught in a whirlwind, friend? Life can be a dizzying dance of…

Scripture
"“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”"

— Psalm 46:10

From the book "Still Walking"
"Sometimes God's loudest voice is found in quiet surrender."

Have you ever felt like you're caught in a whirlwind, friend? Life can be a dizzying dance of deadlines, demands, and endless to-do lists. It’s like the world has cranked up the volume to eleven, and sometimes, it feels like we’re just scrambling to keep up, gasping for air. We chase after everything, hoping to find peace, but often, we just find more noise.

But what if I told you that the secret to true peace isn't found in doing more, but in doing less? It's not about adding another task to your plate, but about stepping off the treadmill for a moment. It's about discovering that sacred space where the clamor of life fades, and a gentle whisper begins to emerge.

The Bible gives us such a beautiful invitation in Psalm 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am God.” These aren't just words on a page; they're a divine download for our souls. God isn't asking you to prove anything, to earn anything, or to perform a sacred dance. He’s simply inviting you into His presence, to a place of quiet surrender.

Imagine pausing in the middle of a bustling city street, closing your eyes, and just listening. Suddenly, the honking horns and chattering voices become background noise, and you might hear the rhythm of your own breath, a distant bird song, or even the soft touch of the wind. That's a glimpse of the stillness God desires for us.

In our hurried lives, we often mistakenly believe that activity equates to productivity, or that noise signals importance. But sometimes, God’s loudest voice, His clearest direction, is found in the quiet moments. It’s in those spaces of calm that His presence washes over us, a peace that transcends all understanding. It's a knowing that deepens not through frantic striving, but through gentle communion.

This stillness isn't an absence of activity; it's a recalibration of your spirit. It's allowing your soul to catch up with your body. It's recognizing that the Creator of the universe doesn't need your eloquent speeches or your perfect prayers to connect with you. He simply desires you, your presence, your quiet surrender. He yearns to pour His amazing grace and unwavering love into your heart.

So often, we run from silence, afraid of what we might hear or what we might face. But friend, in that sacred stillness, you won't find judgment; you'll find grace. You won't find condemnation; you'll find comfort. You'll find the God who loves you unconditionally, ready to fill you with His strength and peace. This quiet surrender is where healing begins, where dreams are rekindled, and where you truly come to know the depth of His goodness.

Today, I challenge you to find just a few moments to 'be still.' Turn off the distractions, quiet the noise, and just breathe in His presence. Allow yourself to truly know Him in a fresh, profound way. When you do, you'll discover a wellspring of peace and strength that will carry you through every season, reminding you that He is always present, always working, and always for you.

Reflect

What fears or distractions keep you from embracing moments of stillness, and how can you intentionally create space for God's quiet presence in your life this week?

Today's prayer
Heavenly Father, we come before You with grateful hearts, seeking Your precious presence. Help us, Lord, to quiet the noise of the world and the chatter in our minds. Teach us the beauty of stillness, the power of surrender, and the joy of truly knowing You in the depths of our souls. Fill us with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, and let our 'being still' be an act of worship and trust in Your unfailing love. Amen.
