Have you ever been on a phone call with a bad connection? You’re talking, sharing your heart, but all you hear is static… a faint hiss… and then, silence. You start to wonder, “Are they still there? Can they even hear me?” Sometimes, my friend, our conversations with God can feel just like that, can’t they?
You send your hopes and your heartaches heavenward, and you wait. And in the waiting, the quiet can feel so loud it almost roars. It’s in those moments that a little whisper of doubt can creep in, asking, “Does He even hear me?” But I want you to hear this today, and let it sink deep into your spirit: The quality of your connection is never, ever in question on His end. God’s line is never busy. His reception is never poor. Our feelings, however, are a different story. Our emotions can create a lot of static, making us feel distant and alone, but our feelings don’t change His reality.
This is why the psalmist’s honest cry is so powerful for you and for me today. He says, “But to you, O Lord, I cry for help; in the morning my prayer comes before you.” He doesn’t say, “I’ll pray once I feel a powerful connection.” He doesn’t promise, “I’ll talk to you when I’m sure you’re listening.” No, his prayer is a beautiful declaration of expectant faith. He simply shows up, trusting that God will, too. Your prayer is not a performance being graded on its eloquence or passion. It is an act of trust, a beautiful signal of your relationship with your Heavenly Father.
Every single time you turn your heart toward heaven—whether your words are polished or fumbling, whispered or shouted—you are making a profound statement of faith. And God doesn’t just hear the words you manage to speak; He hears the deep, unspoken longing of your soul. He sees the courage it takes for you to simply try, to simply call out His name. That, my friend, is a victory! When you pray, you are being cheered on by all of heaven. The silence you might perceive is not a sign of His absence, but an invitation to trust Him on a level beyond your feelings. It’s an opportunity to know that He is near, even when you can’t sense Him.
So today, lift your voice. Don’t you worry about how it sounds or how you feel. Just let your prayer come before Him, knowing that the God of the universe is already leaning in, smiling, and so very glad to hear from you.
