Embracing God's Brand New Day

Sometimes our greatest hurdle to experiencing something new from God isn't the future, but the past. He calls us to look forward, to see the fresh growth…

Scripture
"“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”"

— Isaiah 43:18-19

From the book "Still Walking"
"Sometimes our greatest hurdle to experiencing something new from God isn't the future, but the past. He calls us to look forward, to see the fresh growth He's already orchestrating."

Take a moment and breathe, my friend. Can you feel that? It’s the breath of a God who isn’t done with you yet. We all have a tendency to live in the rearview mirror, don’t we? We flip through the scrapbooks of our souls, lingering on those golden seasons when the sun was high and every seed we planted seemed to bloom overnight. We miss the way things used to be. Or perhaps, more painfully, we keep replaying the scenes we wish we could edit—the mistakes that haunt us or the doors that slammed shut when we were sure they’d open. We carry the past like a heavy suitcase, dragging it into a future that was meant to be light.

But I want you to hear the whisper of your Father today. He is leaning in close, placing a gentle hand on your shoulder, and pointing toward the horizon. He’s saying, "Remember not the former things." He isn’t being dismissive of your history; He’s simply more interested in your destiny. You see, you can’t embrace the grace of today if your hands are still full of yesterday’s regrets. God is inviting you to set the suitcase down. He doesn't want you to just survive the wilderness; He wants to lead you out of it.

God isn't a God of "used to be." He is the God of "right now." Look closely at the words in Isaiah: "Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?" I love that word—*perceive*. It’s a call to wake up your spiritual eyes. It means that even while you’re worrying about the dry ground beneath your feet, God is already busy under the surface. He’s shifting the soil. He’s preparing a breakthrough. While you see a vast, empty desert, He is already laying the pipes for a river. He is the Master Architect of the "New," and He specializes in making pathways through places that look like dead ends.

Does your life feel a bit like a wasteland today? Do you feel stuck in a season of drought? Don't be discouraged. A desert is just the perfect stage for a miracle. God says He will make a way in the wilderness. Not "maybe." Not "if everything goes perfectly." He says *I will*. He is the one who turns your sighing into singing and your shadows into sunshine. He is taking the broken pieces of your past and using them as the foundation for a beautiful new story.

So, would you do yourself a favor? Stop looking back at what you lost and start looking forward to what God is bringing. Your best days are not behind you; they are straight ahead. The "new thing" is already springing forth. It’s a new joy, a new strength, a new opportunity that is uniquely designed for you. Smile, lift your head, and expect something good. God hasn't forgotten you. He’s just getting started, and your desert is about to turn into a garden. Can you see it yet? It’s going to be better than you ever imagined.

Reflect

What "former thing" is God inviting you to release today, so you can fully embrace the incredible "new thing" He is already doing in your life?

Today's prayer
Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your unending grace and the beautiful promise of newness. Help us, Lord, to loosen our grip on yesterday's stories, both the triumphs and the trials. Open our spiritual eyes to truly perceive the fresh, vibrant work You are already orchestrating in our lives. Grant us the courage to step out in faith, knowing that Your loving hand is guiding us, making a way and bringing rivers of life where we least expect them. We choose to embrace Your new thing today. Amen.
