Scripture
"“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”"

— Isaiah 43:18-19

From the book "Still Walking"
"There was a time I thought my story was over, sealed by all my mistakes. But God, in His incredible mercy, whispered those words to me: 'I am doing a new thing.' It wasn't just a suggestion; it was an invitation to a fresh start, to a new chapter I never dared to dream of."

Friend, have you ever felt like you're watching an old movie of your life, playing the same scenes of regret and "what if" over and over? It's so easy to get stuck in the rerun, isn't it? The past can feel like a heavy anchor, holding us back from the beautiful voyage God has planned. But what if I told you that God is saying, "Cut! New scene! New story!" He's calling you to turn your gaze forward, to the amazing, unfolding masterpiece He's already crafting in your life.

The prophet Isaiah beautifully reminds us, "“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”" Isn't that powerful? This isn't just a suggestion; it's a divine declaration! God isn't asking you to pretend the past didn't happen, but to release its power over your present. He's inviting you to step into a vibrant, brand-new chapter that's blooming right before your eyes.

Think about it—a seed doesn't dwell on the ground it just left; it pushes upward, reaching for the sun. In the same way, God wants you to reach for the amazing future He has for you. Maybe you've made mistakes, felt failures, or experienced deep disappointments. Perhaps you thought your story was over, sealed by those very things. But that's not how our God works! He specializes in fresh starts, in turning barren places into blossoming gardens.

He says, "I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland." Can you picture it? A dried-up riverbed suddenly flowing with life-giving water. A parched desert bursting with lush greenery. That's the kind of miracle-working God we serve! No matter how desolate or stuck your situation may feel, God is actively, supernaturally making a way for you. He's bringing refreshment, direction, and purpose where you saw none.

The new thing God is doing isn't some far-off dream; it's "springing up" right now! It's in the gentle nudge to try something new, the unexpected phone call, the fresh perspective you gain. It's in the quiet whisper of hope that reminds you He's still in control. Open your heart, friend, and perceive it. Step out of the shadows of yesterday and into the brilliant light of your God-ordained tomorrow. Get ready, because your new beginning is not just coming—it's already here, ready for you to embrace with joy and anticipation!

Reflect

What "former thing" from your past are you ready to release today, allowing God's "new thing" to fully blossom in your life?

Today's prayer
Heavenly Father, we thank You for being the God of endless new beginnings. We choose to release the grip of our past today, refusing to dwell on disappointments or regrets. Open our eyes and soften our hearts to perceive the beautiful, new things You are already springing forth in our lives. We trust You to make a way in our wilderness and create streams in our wasteland. Thank You for our fresh start, Lord! Amen.
