New Mercies Every Morning

Even in the wake of my worst decisions, God's mercies were there, waiting for me at first light. Friend, have you ever woken up with a cloud hanging over…

Scripture
"The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness."

— Lamentations 3:22-23

From the book "Still Walking"
"Even in the wake of my worst decisions, God's mercies were there, waiting for me at first light."

Friend, have you ever woken up with a cloud hanging over you, a feeling deep in your spirit that whispers, "You messed up. You're not good enough. You're out of options?" Maybe it was a decision from yesterday, a regret from last year, or simply that nagging sense that you've drifted too far. You're not alone. We've all been there, haven't we? That sinking feeling like we’ve dug ourselves into a pit so deep, the very notion of God’s grace seems like a far-off dream. Like trying to catch sunshine in a sieve. Impossible, right? We think, "I certainly don't deserve it. How could I ever earn my way back?" The enemy loves to whisper those lies, doesn't he? He wants you to believe that you’ve exhausted God’s patience, that His well of mercy has run dry for you. But I’m here to tell you, that’s just not true! That's not the God we serve! The truth, dear friend, is radically different. The Bible tells us in Lamentations 3:22-23, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” Think about that for a moment. *New every morning.* Not just some mornings, not just the mornings you feel worthy, but *every* single morning! It’s like a fresh canvas, a brand new start painted just for you with the rising sun. You see, God’s mercy isn't something you earn; it's something He *gives*. It’s not dependent on your performance, but on His perfect nature. His love is steadfast, unwavering, constant. It’s not a shaky love that comes and goes with your good days and bad days. No, His love is as firm as the mountains and as sure as the sunrise. Imagine that! Even in seasons when you felt far off, even when you weren't looking for it, His mercies were there, quietly waiting, patiently nudging. Perhaps it was a kind word from a stranger, an unexpected comfort, or that gentle whisper in your heart encouraging you to pick up His Word again. That, my friend, is His faithfulness. That's His inexhaustible love pursuing you, always. Don't let yesterday’s mistakes steal the joy of today’s fresh mercies. Don't let regret blind you to the beautiful new beginning God has for you. He’s not counting your stumbles; He’s showering you with grace. His arms are open wide, always. So, wake up today, friend, and breathe in deeply. His mercies are fresh, abundant, and tailor-made for you. Step into this new day with confidence, knowing you are deeply loved, completely forgiven, and wonderfully favored. God's faithfulness is your firm foundation, today and always. You are blessed! You are powerful! You are loved!

Reflect

What past regret have you allowed to overshadow the quiet whisper of God’s fresh mercies in your life, and how can you intentionally choose to accept His renewed grace today?

Today's prayer
Heavenly Father, we come to You with grateful hearts, amazed by Your unending goodness. Thank You for Your steadfast love that never gives up on us, and for the fresh mercies that greet us unfailingly with every new morning. Help us to shed the heavy burdens of yesterday’s mistakes and embrace the radiant hope You offer. May we walk confidently in Your grace, trusting in Your great faithfulness to lead us and sustain us. We know with You, every day is a blessed new beginning. Amen.
