From the book "Still Walking"
"When life feels like it's breaking you, remember you're not breaking; you're being reshaped."

My dear friend, have you ever felt like you're caught in a storm, buffeted by winds you can't control, or perhaps like a lump of clay being vigorously worked and refashioned? We all have those seasons, those moments when life presses in, and it feels less like shaping and more like shattering. You might wonder, "What on earth is happening to me? Will I ever be whole again?" I want to whisper a hope-filled truth into your heart today: even in those intense moments, you are not breaking; you are being beautifully reshaped by a loving hand.

Imagine a skilled potter, deeply engrossed in their work. They take a seemingly formless chunk of clay, perhaps even one that's been discarded or dried out, and they begin to work it. There's pressure, yes, but it's not a destructive force; it's a refining touch. They knead, they press, they spin the wheel, all with an ultimate vision in mind – to create something useful, something magnificent. You, my friend, are that treasured clay in the hands of the Master Potter. He doesn't just see what you are; He sees every glorious possibility of what you can become.

The scripture today from Jeremiah 18:6b reminds us, "Behold, like the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel," declares the Lord. Isn't that a comforting image? You are not adrift, forgotten, or left to fend for yourself. You are securely held. Every challenge, every stretching moment, every time you feel vulnerable or exposed, it's simply the Master at work, removing the impurities, smoothing out the rough edges, and molding you closer to His perfect design.

He's not trying to diminish you; He's trying to elevate you! He's not breaking you down; He's building you up! Perhaps He's removing some old habits, some limiting beliefs, or some areas of unforgiveness that have held you back. He's making space for new joy, new peace, new opportunities to flourish. It might feel uncomfortable, like a piece needs to be removed, but rest assured, His intentions are always good, always for your highest good. He wants you to shine, to reflect His glory in a way only you can. So, let go of the struggle, release the fear, and trust the process. You are being fashioned into a vessel of honor, filled with divine purpose and overflowing with grace.

Know this: you are deeply loved, incredibly valuable, and constantly being perfected. The future He has for you is bright, filled with hope and a divine design that will bring you immense fulfillment. Step into this truth, embrace the shaping, and prepare to witness the beautiful creation He is making of you.

Reflect

What old, hardened layers might the Master Potter be lovingly reshaping in you right now, and how can you lean into His gentle process with greater trust?

Today's prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for being our Master Potter, holding us so gently and securely in Your hands. We praise You that even amidst life's pressures, You are always working for our good, shaping us into vessels of beauty and purpose. Help us to truly surrender to Your loving touch, to trust Your perfect plan, and to know that Your intentions for us are always filled with grace and hope. Mold us, Lord, and make us shine for Your glory. Amen.
